HBO Asia’s first original drama series premiered in Asia on 22nd September. Serangoon Road a co-production with ABC Australia is a ten-part detective drama set in 1960s Singapore starring Joan Chen, Don Hany, Michael Dorman, Pamelyn Chee, Chin Han, Alaric Tay, Maeve Dermody and Ario Bayu. The show was produced by Erika North, Sue Masters, Nicholas North, Mike Wiluan and Paul D Barron.
Set in 1964-65, Singapore is at a crossroads, with political and racial tensions at fever pitch as the British pull out. Sam Callaghan runs an import/export business with his Malay partner Kang. He agrees to help neighbour Patricia Cheng at her detective agency after her husband is killed while working on a case. Sam’s contacts from his military days are useful but they start to drag him back into a dark world that he would prefer to leave behind.
