The 24 mini-series Live Another Day continues production apace adding several key names to the already impressive cast-list. One of those is actor, commentator and QI-quizmaster Stephen Fry.
Though perhaps better known in recent years for his presenting and narration duties, Fry is no stranger to acting with acclaimed roles in projects as diverse as Peter's Friends, Wilde, V for Vendetta, Kingdom, The Borrowers, several episodes of Bones and - most recently - The Hobbit. Fry is, of course, also known for his writing prowess both for television and film work and on the West End musical Me and My Girl.
Fry will essay the role of a fictional 'strong and charismatic' British Prime Minister called Trevor Davies who is an old friend of President William Heller (William Devane)... but who comes under pressure when the fugitive Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland) is traced to London. Needless to say, much diplomatic gnashing of teeth and 'derring-do with extreme prejudice' will no doubt ensue.
Impact met Stephen during publicity for V for Vendetta and he expressed at the time an interest in dramas that ask the bigger questions about the nature of security and freedom, so 24 could be another interesting venture...
"I guess there was a big issue bout the individual and the State. In the 1980s it was maybe less interesting to people. Everyone’s talking about it again It raises questions like all the best films do and if it can be entertaining as well…” he offered. “I think it’s certainly possible that the individual could be compromised if not by the State then by a combination of the State and the billions of bits of data that anyone can access…”
The news comes shortly after the annoucement that Tate Donovan (Damages, Hostages) and Benjamin Bratt (Law and Order, Despicable Me) will also be joining the already impressive line-up of namesd attached to the mini-series which will begin broadcast in the first week of May.
