It's been a busy time for Donnie Yen, involved in several high-profile projects.. He was recently in London for the premiere of Kung-Fu Jungle and he's just wrapped his contribution to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend. Coming up on his schedule is a trip to the US to film his next movie, the English-language Noodleman. The film is described as an 'action project' and sees Yen playing a Chinese ex-cop who has long sought the killer of his partner even after the trail appears to have gone cold. But when the drug-lord he believes is responsible turns up in New York's Chinatown, he begins the search again with new vigour - and some local obstacles.
Industry-site The Hollywood Reporter notes that the film will be directed by Daming Chen with producing duties by Michael Shamberg (probably best known as a producer on such movies as Get Shorty, Gattaca, Django Unchained and Contagion). Donnie's output has mainly been eastern projects but he did appear in such Western productions as Highlander: Endgame and Blade 2,
“Donnie's wonderful blend of acting talent and martial arts makes him a unique star," said Shamber in a statement that accompanied the announcement.
“What we are doing here is not only very unique, but will hopefully serve as the model of merging the best from East and West,” said Yen. “(Michael) understands the changing climate of the business and is very progressive in his approach."
