Buffy Revamp is Staked

There had long been rumours of a new Buffy movie, but sans Whedon, Gellar or almost anyone connected with the hit TV show. Now...it's been staked. (Phew!)

AICN, Blastr and the Los Angeles Times are reporting that the proposed re-working on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise has, thankfully, ground to a halt.  It was undoubtedly one of the least-anticipated projects of recent memory and had its origins in deals done before the hit series, helmed by Joss Whedon, took real flight. The new film would have re-imagined the conceit of the original movie and therefore there would have been no Giles, Willow, Xander and much of the beloved supporting cast.

Whedon had not even been invited to take part in the reworking and would probably have been too busy with the likes of Cabin in the Woods and The Avengers. An actress called Whit Anderson had been given screenwriting duties but the result of her efforts was deemed as 'unworkable' by sources LA Times reporter Geoff Boucher quoted in his article.

The Buffy comics, published by Dark Horse and sometimes penned by Whedon, continue the official series story...
