Machete - View to Another Kill

7th February 2012

Machete may need to sharpen his blades again. Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo are returning for a planned sequel...

It began as a spoof Grindhouse trailer in 2009 and became the guilty pleasure that was the full-length feature film... Machete! The film made $44 million and only cost $10 million to make, so in many ways it was very much a big success story, despite some mixed reviews. However, many fans of the obvious, unapologetic OTT style loved it and it is now being reported that Robert Rodriguez and producer Alexander Rodnyansky are getting ready to bring back title-star Danny Trejo for a sequel entitled... Machete Kills.  In fact if Rodriguez and Co have their way, this may be the second part of a planned trilogy.

The new film will see Machete recruited by the US Government to battle his way across Mexico and defeat abillionnaire arms dealer planning to '...spread war across the planet with a weapon in space'.  (Okkkkkkay. Well if it's good enough for James Bond...)

Machete Kills has an April date for the propsed start of production from a script by Kyle Ward (developed by Rodriguez and Marcel Rodriguez). Many of the surviving faces from the first outing are likely to return and we can confidentally predict there will be much slicing, dicing, intestinal spillage... and general misbehaving.
