After much speculation Fringe, one of the big cult successes of the last few years (if not always in ratings, then certainly in the loyal-following department) WILL return in the 2012/2013 schedules with one final, fifth season which will run to thirteen episodes. The show began with a vibe remeniscent of one of Fox's previous hit shows The X-Files and for much of the first seaosn was a 'strange occurence of the week' scenario. However those who stuck with the show saw it develop more into a different kind of conspiracy show, complete with dopplegangers, parallel realities and even Leonard Nimoy as a dubious scientist. The current season of the show has seen a dip in ratings and many feared that in a competitive environment, it might well get cancelled. However Fox appear to have recognised that its brand of intrigue, sci-fi and action are still popular with a fiercely loyal fanbase and want to see it off in style.
Fringe joins a number of drama/action shows that have already been confirmed for the 2012/2013 season. Others already known to have survived the cull are Person of Interest, Bones, Alphas, Castle, The Mentalist, Hawaii Five-O, NCIS and NCIS:Los Angeles, The likes of Terra Nova will NOT be returning and shows such as Alcatraz ,Touch, CSI: New York and CSI: Miami remain 'on the bubble' until the networks announce their final decisions next month.
