Battleship sinks hopes into trailer
Boasting it is '...from the company that made the toys that inspired the Transformers movie... ' here comes Battleship (Not ... of Mars).
Though little is known of the exact story, it's safe to say that Battleship is a tale of marines and navy versus an armada of aliens with all the explosions, gunfire and derring-do that studio-executives and adolescent boys demand. Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson and Rhianna are just three of the names starring in the movie vaguely inpsired by and enlarged from the Hasbro boardgame (and to be fair Transformers was hardly the all-ages adaptation one might have originally suspected). The film is helmed by director/actor Peter Berg.
Kitsch's current movie John Carter isn't bombing (but, taking into account it's huge budget, wholly underperforming due to a ridiculously ill-advised marketing campaign) however Battleship will need to perform much better to recoup what is believed to be a very large budget beholden of a prime spring/summer release. Word of mouth will play a part as the film opens in the US in mid-May but almost a month before in several international territories.
