The long-anticpated news of the casting for the next Batman film has finally been announced – including the new 'Catwoman' and 'Bane'…
In a somewhat unexpected choice, Anne Hathaway has beaten out some rumoured even-bigger names to play the role of Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s next Gotham outing, entitled The Dark Knight Rises which is due for release on July 20th 2012. Tom Hardy will take the role of Bane, the character who, in the comics-continuity, broke Bruce Wayne's back and led to him hanging up the famous cowl (albeit on a temporary basis). Christian Bale will reprise the title role fora third outing and though there is no word, it is presumed Michael Caine will appear as Alfred.
Hathaway has had a steadily rising career, appearing ina variety of movies such as Rachel Getting Married, The Princess Diaries, the remake of Get Smart, The Devil Wears Prada and the recent (and more raunchy) Love and Other Drugs. Tom Hardy recently worked with Nolan on Inception and is equally well known for hard-man roles in the likes of Bronson, Rock'n'Rolla, Layer Cake and Star Trek: Nemesis.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” said Christophr Nolan in a statement. “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies…"
Little is known about the story of the film beyond the main casting, though the screenplay has been written by Jonathan Nolan from a story by Chrstopher Nolan and David S. Goyer.
