Gibson, Snipes and Cage for Expendables 3?

Written by (Far Eastern Editor) on 16th April 2013

Mel Gibson and Wesley Snipes may have grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons in recent years, but could they headline Expendables 3?

The second Expendables movie may have got a mixed reaction, but it got a solid box-office return and made the chance of a third macho-outing almost a certainty. Sylvester Stallone has spoken of his plans to bring in some more big guns (literal and metaphoric) for a third chapter. A couple of tweets appeared this week on Stallone’s official twitter in which he talks, seriously or not (you decide), of bringing in Mel Gibson into the project - not only as one of the cast but as the film's potential director . There's also rumours that Wesley Snipes, freshly-released form prison where he was serving time for tax evasion, may be invited to take part and there are persistent rumours that Nicolas Cage may also be in the potential line-up.

The tweets have since been taken down but have been featured in various skipchats across the internet. It's too early to say if Gibson, Snipes and Cage are officially onboard or have even been offcially approached - similar rumours circulated over the first two outings -  but the prospect still gets the Impact team excited. Imagine the scale of a Gibson-directed Expendables movie... and the thought of Snipes, Cage and Gibson in the cast as protagnists or antagonists does offer potential new weight AND mayhem of the highest level. All three are solid thespians as well as solid action heroes and could really raise the ante for a third film which was high on manic fun, but low of real drama last time.

Of course, there’s still been talk of Jean-Claude Van Damme returning for another outing, despite his character 'Jean Villain' failing to make it to the closing credits... perhaps as Claude Villain, the twin brother of his character from the second film. It wouldn't be the first time JCVD has played twin siblings, now would it?
