Adkins joins Renny Harlin’s Hercules 3D

Hercules seems to be Hollywood's next action hero...and may be confronted in 3D by Britain's own Scott Adkins...

Impact’s favourite British martial arts hero Scott Adkins (soon to be seen in the third Green Street movie - and the recently wrapped Ninja 2) is joining Renny Harlin’s Hercules 3D which is filming now with Twilight star Kellen Lutz as the heroic son of Zeus. Adkins plays King Amphitryon, who according to the Hercules legend, is the real husband of Hercules' mother Alcemene (who was impregnated by Zeus after the horny god transformed himelf into Amphitryon in order to seduce her and this resulted in Alcmene giving birth to twin sons, Hercules, son of Zeus and Iphicles, Amphitryon’s son.... thus goeth the history lesson!)

One of the characters mentioned in the script breakdown is Hercules' twin brother Iphicles, and the movie will also star  Liam Hemsworth as Hercules’ pugilistic pal Sotiris. The plot finds Hercules and Sotiris being sold into slavery and having to fight their way to freedom against an evil King. Since Adkins is playing “King Amphitryon”, could Adkins be the villain?

Harlin is directing the film, which is scheduled for March 2014 while Undisputed 2 helmer Isaac Florentine is handling the film's action unit, along with Action DOP of choice Ross Clarkson. There were several Hercules projects being considered by various parties in recent years, some of which have moved forward, others not. Harlin’s film will be going up against the Brett Ratner-directed Hercules, starring Dwayne Johnson.
