When Captain America plunged into the 1940s arctic and was kept on ice for over fifty years, he didn't just leave a grateful world behind him, but also the love of his life... Agent Peggy Carter (as played by Hayley Atwell). As previously reported, Carter (and Atwell) feature in a special one-shot short story that is included on the Iron Man 3 DVD release, detailing Carter's exploits after losing the love of her life. Without spoiling too much, she has a pretty important role to play in the early days of a special Howard Stark initiative.
But news now comes via the likes of industry site Deadline that the Powers-That-Be are so happy with the one-shot that they are seriously considering another television series based on the character. The series, if it goes ahead, would be broadcast on America's ABC network which will be launching Marvel's Agents of SHIELD on 25th September (and in the UK next Friday - look for our review of that show next week). It is understood that an Agent Carter series is still very much in the provisional stages and ABC may well be wanting to see the numbers that are pulled in by SHIELD. ABC have placed it in direct opposition to one of the US's most popular shows NCIS, which is a risky move, but with NCIS undergoing a significant cast change, there's everything to play for in the Tuesday time-slots.
One would suspect that if SHIELD pulls in the audiences expected, that a green-light would quickly be given to begin actively developing an Agent Carter series, possibly to launch in 2014 and which would obviously make a good sisters-show to SHIELD given the nature of the shared universe, albeit it ina different time-frame (Seriously, how much would anyone want to bet a time-travel cross-over episode would ensue?). It is understood that Agent Carter is just one idea under consideration and that Marvel Studios will want to get a lot of superhuman ducks in a row before Avengers: Age of Ultron hits the cinema screen. At this point, it is not known if Atwell would reprise the role, though it is understood she will make a brief appearance in the Captain America: The Winter Soldier outing.
