With the Fast & Furious 6’s coda connecting a tragic event from the third film to the current timeline with the death of another major character (in what we initially experienced as an accident and now know was murder courtesy of Jason Statham’s first act of vengeance against the F&F teams for what happened to his brother) it’s now been announced that Lucas Black who played Sean Boswell in the third film 'Tokyo Drift' has signed on for part seven - with options for possible eighth & ninth chapters in the franchise. (Yes, they ar eplanning that far ahead now).
With James Wan taking over the helm from Justin Lin (who helmed part three, four, five and six), Black joins the returning Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster while Statham, Kurt Russell, Djimon Hounsou, UFC female champ Rhonda Rousey and (possibly) Tony Jaa join the franchise for the first time.
We’ve liked Lucas Black’s work since his memorable work in American Gothic, through F&F: Tokyo Drift to Legion and beyond, although we’re wondering how much they will have aged the high school student version of him some seven years since we last saw him (when Vin Diesel made his cameo in the final scene).
The seventh film is set for summer 2014 release.
