Hawkeye to be Bourne Again...

Jeremy Renner doesn’t seem content with being in just one of 2012’s most anticipated movies, now he’s set to star in another as the Bourne franchise relaunches...

Renner, who came to fame in The Hurt Locker and recently starred in The Town will, of course, be playing Hawkeye in next year’s superherofest, The Avengers and has already been seen in the role with an extended cameo in Thor. He will also appear in the next Mission Impossible movie ( ’Ghost Protocol’) which he has recently been shooting with Tom Cruise and is due out in December 2011.  But now he’s been lined up for another potential blockbuster... the relaunch of the Bourne franchise.

Deadline reports that Universal Pictures have formally offered the rising star the central role in the latest instalment, entitled The Bourne Legacy. The ‘spin-off’ will not feature the character of Jason Bourne, but will concentrate on a fellow operative brainwashed by the Treadstone Project and his own search for the truth.

Universal decided to take this route after original star Matt Damon and original director Paul Greengrass both decided they didn’t want to continue. As the original books by Robert Ludlum were continued after the author's death with new writers, this is not such a departure...
