Supernatural Season 10

Long-running cult hit is still going strong and its tenth spooky season is now hitting DVD…

supernatural-season-10-dvd-coverThe brothers are back to it, you know… the family business? During Supernatural Season 10, the Winchesters face yet more demons (some within themselves), angels and Death. Our firm favourites return to the series, as well as our very own, British actor, Mark A Sheppard (Crowley) returning to his post as the King of Hell – who the brothers still haven’t killed despite being demon hunters (ironic).

Season 10 takes place six weeks after the fatal ending of Season 9, seeing the mark of Cain put onto Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles). It begins with Dean adjusting to his new life alongside his best buddy Crowley. Whist Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) tries his hardest to find his brother – again. Another favourite to the series Castiel (Misha Collins) is elsewhere oblivious to Dean’s . Castiel is trying desperately to return fallen angels back to the newly restored heaven and later helping Sam with finding a cure to remove the mark from Dean – even though it could potentially be worse than his previous mistakes.

As custom to Supernatural the season follows many different religious and folklore ‘tales’, with many combat scenes between characters, usually initiated by Dean due to the mark. As custom to the show, the brothers keep their weapons of choice. Dean uses his gun (which previously belonged to John Winchester) and Ruby’s knife, whilst Sam usually depends on his smart wit and his own gun. This season sees more use of hand to hand combat between Dean and Castiel (known as Destiel to the Supernatural fandom).

The season also focuses on the relationship and the strain between the two brothers after the fall out from Dean going down the dark route. Supernatural Season 10 explores the family bond between the brothers – what forces them apart, and ultimately what brings them back together. Dean becomes a recluse which makes Sam try harder to bring them back together as brother and work partners. A belonging of Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver) is found, which enforces the family bond once again.

Each character gives a brilliant performance, which was richly rewarded through The People’s Choice Awards, where the series was nominated as the Favourite Network for Sci-Fi and Fantasy and Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) won The People’s Choice Award for the Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor. (Misha Collins was also nominated for Favourite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor).

But of course Supernatural wouldn’t be the same without more twists and turns along the way; with new characters being introduced along the way, some old characters coming back and some sad news for one character. The Season focuses on getting rid of the mark, and Dean becoming ‘human’ again. The season has 23 hour long episodes, in which the brothers continue to help and fight one another with the last episode leaving us with another heart wrenching cliff hanger.
