Daniel Wu goes Tomb Raiding…

Daniel Wu for Tomb Raider

The ‘Tomb Raider‘ reboot was already attracting some major names – but the addition of Into the Badlands‘ Daniel Wu shows they’ll be taking the action element seriously…

Fresh from wrapping season two of Into The Badlands, Daniel Wu will be joining the Tomb Raider reboot. Norwegian director Roar Uthaug is helming the new adventure for Warner Brothers, MGM and GK Filmswhich will see Alicia Vikander stepping into the tight shorts and t-shirt for the live action version of the pixelated adventurer previously played by Angelina Jolie in the two earlier cinematic adventures.

Wu will play Lu Ren, a Han Solo’esque mercenary ship’s captain who partners with Croft on a quest to find the truth about her father’s disappearance… and together they will battle the film’s villain to be played by The Shield / Justified‘s Walt Goggins. The two previous Tomb Raider movies took home more than US$400 million at the box office for Paramount. The new Tomb Raider film looks set to begin production in late January in South Africa –  with rumours that Macau will also serve as a backdrop for part of the adventure.

Wu’s film career began twenty years in 1997 when a visit to Hong Kong to witness the handover saw him get the opportunity to make his film debut in Yonfan’s Bishonen. He was quickly signed to Jackie Chan’s management company, The JC Group, which guided his career through such smash hits as Gen-X Cops, Purple Storm, Young & Dangerous The Prequel, One Night in Mongkok, New Police Story and the Spinal Tap-inspired mocumentar y Heavenly Kings (which Wu also directed). Wu has just finished work on the second season of AMC‘s Into The Badlands wearing multiple hats as leading man and producer.
