It may be Hugh Jackman’s last outing as ‘Wolverine’, but next year’s movie is already giving some interesting clues to its audience, via returning director James Mangold…
In the same week that Ben Affleck confirmed his solo Dark Knight outing would simply be called ‘THE Batman‘ (a la ‘THE Wolverine’ to underline its distinctiveness), it appears that Marvel‘s adamantium-laced mutant hero will also be getting a distinctive ‘name’ for his next film. In what is largely expected to be Hugh Jackman’s swansong. The film – currently destined for a release date of 3rd March 2017 – will be called Logan and director James Mangold has tweeted out two key images associated with the production.
The first is a page from the script which certainly indicates that the film is going for an adult rating due to language and violence, something that many Wolverine fans have wanted.
The second image is a very simple if also distinctive and emotive poster featuring a bruised and battered arm and hand of our hero being held by an infant’s hand. We still don’t know a lot about the plot of the film but certain elements do match the concept behind Old Man Logan, the Marvel comic that detailed a future Wolverine living in a dystopian future and having sworn off violence after he was tricked into killing his team-mates. It was essentially a mutant take on Unforgiven. The film will feature an older Wolverine/Logan, one whose healing factor is on the wane (note the stitches in the poster image) and who has sought solace and pain-relief with plenty of alcohol… until something or someone brings him back to the fight.
