A group known as ‘Papillon Rising‘ have their own particular way of honouring the classic Jackie Chan film ‘Armour of God‘…
It’s 30 years since Jackie Chan’s near fatal accident during the making of his classic Armour of God. The Indiana Jones styled adventure co-stars Alan Tam (from Dragon Family), Rosamund Kwan (from Once Upon a Time in China) and Lola Forner (from Wheels on Meals). While shooting a relatively simple stunt in Yugoslavia, a tree branch snapped and Chan hit the ground hard and suffered a life threatening head injury that many people thought would end his career. However, Chan recovered and leaped back into action to complete the movie, and three decades later he’s still making movies and pulling of stunts and moves that we wish we could do…
Now, as the film celebrates its 30th Anniversary and with Jackie having just been presented with an overdue honorary Oscar celebrating his life and work, Chan and the film are remembered with the release of Papillon Rising‘s high energy take on the film’s theme song High Upon High (originally sung by Chan himself during the films end credits). The cover version comes with an incredible music video that homages the original film, directed and stunt choreographed by the very talented Andy Long Nguyen, a member of the Jackie Chan Stunt-Team (having worked on Chinese Zodiac, Police Story 2013 and Dragon Blade among others, himself).
The music video features the Papillon Rising crew interacting with Jackie Chan and co, as clips of the original film are spliced into their new footage perfectly matched and graded to the original. Some scenes were shot on several of the same locations as the original film including the jungle temple and Monk’s Lair in Yugoslavia (which some of you might also remember from Where Eagles Dare, ‘Broadsword calling Danny Boy!’), and features the band in pursuit of Chan, doing battle with the same Amazonian warriors from Armour of God and some high impact recreations of key fight and stunt moments.
According to their official bio, Papillon Rising is a part of the Papillon movement, a group of artists, scientists and outlaws fighting for freedom and creativity from the future, where the Executive Force for Cultural Order control the world. Hats off and a big shout of respect to Andy and his team for their hard work, which delivers fights and stunts worthy of Chan at his best, and with a sense of silly fun, we smile and dance a little jig for their 80’s styled take on the song, and for throwing themselves into the action…
