A new big-screen biopic of Bruce Lee will go into production early next year, with 'The Bourne Ultimatum' writer George Nolfi as the helm...

Bruce Lee biopic gets directorOver the years there have been many documentaries on the career of Bruce Lee and several dramas, including Rob Cohen's 1993 Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story with Jason Scott Lee in the title role. Now another big production is on the cards with the news that The Adjustment Bureau's director George Nolfi is set to helm Birth of the Dragon for Groundswell Productions and QED International.

Nolfi is also known for his writing work on such projects as Ocean's Twelve, The Bourne Ultimatum and the Need for Speed. He's also an executive producer on NBC's forthcoming spy drama Allegiance for which he wrote and directed the pilot.

Industry site Variety reports that the film should start shooting in the spring of 2015 and will tell the story of the legendary martial artist through the eyes of one of his students, Steve Macklin. It will focus, in part, on Bruce Lee's  1965 duel with  famous kung fu master Wong Jack Man and the attempts all three men made to stem the influence the Triads had around San Francisco.  The script is currently being written by Christopher Wilkinson and Stephen Rivele who are probably best known for their work on other biopics such as Nixon and Ali

No casting news is known at present, but hopefully there'll be more information as the project progresses.
