We've generally been of the opinion that any reboot of RoboCop is one of those projects that just doesn't seem... needed. The original was a classic entry in the action genre and the problem with any reimagining is that you go too far away from the central concept or you merely do a retread. We can't yet tell from the new teaser trailer if we're going to like this film on its own merits - particularly as the suit itself seems inferior to the original... merely a different colour.
Certainly a lot of the touchstones seem to remain in place and there's an all-star cast - including the relaible Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton - but it all seems very... familiar.
However there's still potential in the concept itself and if the film can be half as perceptive with its dark humour and social commentary it could still work... so we'll wait to pass complete robo-judgement until we've seen the full result when the movie is released next February...
