Sheffiled-born Bean is the latest actor to sign on to the Jupiter Ascending project that already stars Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis and Les Miserables' Eddie Redmayne and which looks set to be Lana and Andy Wachowskis' first film since Cloud Atlas (due to open in the UK soon but currently dividing critics in the US).
The new sci-fi action movie has an equally complicated and high-concept plot centred around 'higher life-forms' watching the Earth and bemused to find out that a poor Russian imigrant (Kunis) appears to have the same genetic code as the 'Queen of the Universe' and therefore a potential threat. A bounty hunter (Tatum) is sent to take care of the problem, but complications ensure when he falls for his target... (ain't that the way?)
Bean's character is a rough-and-ready older character called Stringer who appears to be cut in the 'Han Solo' style. (No word whether he makes it to the end credits or not!)
If successful, the film - rumoured to be a $200million outing - is part of a planned trilogy.
