Green Machine: Lundgren to punish CW’s ‘Arrow’…

Lundgren in Arrow

Busy action star Dolph Lundgren will be trying to make Stephen Amell  quiver when he takes up the role of ‘Big Bad’ in flashback episodes of next season’s ‘Arrow‘…

Swedish actor and action star Dolph Lundgren is keeping busy.  As well as roles in a raft of upcoming action movies, he also managed an appearance at the recent Showmasters’ event, the London Film and Comic Con, and has now confirmed he’ll be appearing in a recurring role in the next season of hit CW show Arrow. As well as being the infamous Ivan Drago against Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky IV, he’s been the original ‘on-screen’ version of Marvel‘s Punisher and He-Man in the live-action Masters of the Universe and one of the ensemble stars of The Expendables ( as ‘Gunner’ Jensen) he will extend his genre credentials by appearing in an arc of Arrow stories destined to screen when the show returns to the CW in September.

Though the exact details of his role are not known, it appears from comments made by showrunner Wendy Mericle to reporters on the Television Critics Association press event  that his character will feature in a series of flashbacks – spread over three episodes –  that are set in Russia and Lundgren’s role is described as being the ‘Big Bad’ of those stories. One rumour is that he is playing a character called Kovar  (mentioned in passing at the end of last season) who actually shares his name with another DC character Leonid Kovar aka ‘Red Star’. Whether that’s a coincidence or not, time will tell.

The episodes will see him come into conflict with Amell’s character, Oliver Queen, directly, so expect a key fight sequence…
