Good news for fans of the ‘girls with guns’ genre as Maria Tran confirms ‘Tiger Cops‘ will soon be back on the beat…
We’ve always been fans of ‘Hong Kong Action Cinema’ and its Girls with Guns and Gung Fu genre, with all manner of fighting female from Michelle Yeoh, Cynthia Rothrock, Moon Lee, Yukari Oshima, Cynthia Khan, Michiko Nichiwaki and Sophia Crawford still a major part of our regular viewing.
So this bit of breaking news – via Maria Tran’s tweeting – brought a smile to our faces…
“We got the funding (Yippie!!) and are on our way to pre-production for Hong Kong actionesque “Tiger Cop” series! This is gonna be kick ass slash bad dubbing awesomeness!”
Yes, Australian Vietnamese actress and film-maker Maria Tran (Tracer, Hit Girls) and director Adrian Castro (Hidden Peaks) will be bringing us further adventures from the ‘alternate universe’ Hong Kong Police action series Tiger Cop! Inspired by (and paying homage to the best and occasionally the worst aspects of) the girls with guns genre, Tiger Cop follows a pugilistic policewoman (Maria Tran) whose fists and feet of fury may bring the bad guys to justice, but often bring her into conflict with her foul mouthed by the book Gwailo/White Ghost British superiors.
There’s no word yet on if this latest incarnation of Tiger Cop will be a feature, a tv series ala Maximum Choppage or perhaps a web-series… all we do know is ‘Hong Kong Action Cinema’ will be returning to Sydney, Australia sometime very soon.
And for a sampling of what we have to look forward to, here’s Tiger Cop 1 and 2.….
