Re-Enter the Ninja as blu-ray beckons...

8th January 2015

Ninjas were the new black in the 1980s. Now one of the key video releases of the era, 'Enter the Ninja', is finally getting a 21st Century blu-ray treatment...

May 2015 will see the blu-ray release, through Kino-Lorber, of Cannon Films' 1981 classic Enter the Ninja, directed by Menahem Golan. The movie, which launched the entire Ninja boom of the 1980s also spawned Cannon's Ninja sequels including Revenge of the Ninja and Ninja 3: The Domination, and all manner of 80s Ninjitsu including Pray for Death, the American Ninja movies, The Master tv series and - of course - all manner of Joseph Lai headband-wearing Ninja-action most of which featured Richard Harrison as the 'Ultimate Ninja'!

The movie, which began life as Dance of Death, was developed by karate legend Mike Stone as a starring vehicle for himself. It hit a few production problems during its shoot... the original director being replaced by Cannon Films head-honcho Menahem Golan and Stone finding himself replaced by original Django himself, Franco Nero (while being retained as stunt double and fight choreographer for the project). The film's co-stars include Susan George, Christopher George and of course Sho Kosugi who plays the villainous Hasegawa and became the definitive face of Ninja cinema to most people.

The suitably bombastic and understated trailer for the film can be seen below...

There's no word yet on special features for the release, but Kino Lorber's blu-ray release of Cannon's Avenging Force, features audio commentary, interviews and more so we're hoping for a similar package for this one.
